Do you wish to install a new bathroom vanity as your next DIY project? Follow our step-by-step guide below!
Step 1. Remove The Old Vanity
- The first step in the process is finding and turning off the water supply.
- Usually, this will be located below the sink. Turn the main water valve off if the valves are not located below the sink.
- Turn the faucet on quickly to alleviate any water pressure that may have been built up in the piping.
- Place a large bucket underneath the tubes to catch any water.
- Loosen the slip or mounting nut at the top of the P-trap with an adjustable wrench.
- Use that wrench to disconnect the water supply.
- Cut the sealant along the backsplash with a utility knife, carefully pulling on the sink or top of vanity to separate it entirely from the wall.
- Check your local guidelines for proper disposal of the old vanity.
Step 2. Install The New Vanity
- Position the new vanity into its place.
- Use a stud finder to locate the studs.
- Mark these studs on the wall.
- Level the vanity.
- Measure, mark, then drill holes for supply and drain piping.
Step 3. Attach Vanity To The Wall
- Use 3-inch drywall screws to attach the new vanity to the wall. If necessary, use wall anchors for the attachment.
- Check the level one last time before trimming the shims with a utility knife.
- Attach a quarter-round moulding along either the floor or wall edge with finishing nails if you see any gaps.
Step 4. Install Faucet
- Assemble the faucet and drain on the sink prior to the attachment.
- Place the plastic gasket on the faucet followed by fastening and screwing the nuts.
- Find the designated holes on the vanity top and insert the faucet.
- Attach the water supply lines using an adjustable wrench.
Step 5. Secure Vanity Top
- Make sure there are no gaps between vanity and the straight wall.
- Next, apply silicone caulk to the cabinet top.
- Set the vanity into position and firmly press down.
- Make sure the vanity top is level and flush to the wall at this time.
- Add a backsplash, if desired.
Step 6. Reconnect The Water Supply
- Now reconnect your faucet supply lines to the water supply.
- Reconnect the P-trap.
- Turn on the water to test for any leaks or issues.
- Lastly, install the pop-up drain.
